USASA Midwest Best 2013-2014
I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to shoot with the USASA Midwest Best series. This season was one the best and worst seasons we have had in Wisconsin in a long time, the cold temperatures were brutal (and not kind on my camera gear), the days were often overcast, but the snow came early and stayed late! While less than I would have liked, I made it out to 6 of the USASA events. It was a great experience and special thanks goes out to Dana for reaching out to me and coordinating things and everyone who showed up at the events to shred.
In this post I link to the Flickr albums all of the photos I have taken this season. You can click the titles to see the full album. I have already posted all of these photos on my Facebook page as well if you would like to view them there or tag the someone in the photos
I urge you to please consider ordering a print of any of the photos I took this season. While it was a fantastic opportunity, the only way I can continue to do this in the future is with your support. If you are interested in ordering you can find my prices here and you can contact me via the form on my Contact Page or replying to this post.
2013-12-28 – Sunburst Rail Jam
The first and only time I had a chance to use strobes over the course of the competition season, which made for some of the most unique images I took all year. I noticed that I had lost my phone in the middle of the event, so I ended up getting a lot less pictures while the girls were competing as I was frantically searching for it.
2014-01-04 – Sunburst USASA Slopestyle Competition
While the weather was overcast, the cold and wind decided to hold off for a day and let this competition go off without a hitch. The amount of cloud cover that day didn’t make for the best of conditions for photos, but I did my best to snap as many great shots as I could.

2014-01-26 – Tyrol Basin USASA Banked Slalom
This ended up being a lot more fun to shoot than I was expecting. Though shooting racing really made me want to have an expensive 300mm lens so I could nail some tight shots. I had to delete a lot of photos because my camera’s focus just couldn’t keep up, but I am really happy with the once that I was able to capture.
2014-03-01 – The Rock USASA Banked Slalom
Cold weather, blowing winds, and falling snows…sounds like the perfect combination for a banked slalom event. While the course wasn’t as scenic as the one at Tyrol Basin, it makes for better spectating and allowed me to try some different and unique angles.
2014-03-02 – Sunburst USASA End of the Season
Finally a sunny day! Too bad that instead of the warm weather you would expect for the end of the season we got single digit temps and strong winds. Though this was far from the coldest day of the year, shooting this event was the coldest I have been all season. The mixture of standing still with light gloves on for taking photos made for a frozen body. Even with the cold, the costumes came out and everybody threw down. The 4 person run format made it hard to take pictures but was super fun to watch (especially the hockey match).
